FAQ

Is this event free?

A minimum donation of $10 per car is suggested to help offset recycling costs and to benefit the Reds Community Fund. We can accept cash or check at the front of the car line.

Can I recycle CRT (tube-style) TVs and monitors at this event?

Yes, but please limit to no more than three of these items per car. Read more about these hard-to-recycle items.

What should I NOT bring?

This recycling event is limited to electronic materials only. We will not take batteries, light bulbs, wood, paper, cardboard, scrap metal, or hazardous waste, including paint cans and chemical containers.

Other than those exceptions, a good rule of thumb is that if it takes batteries or plugs in to an outlet, we can recycle it. Common items include personal computers and laptops, cell phones, printers, monitors, keyboards, cables and chargers, and small home appliances.

Do I have to "wipe" my computer or hard drive first?

When you recycle your electronics with Cohen, you can trust that all bases are covered. That includes data security.

Cohen was one of the first dual-certified US recycling companies in the nation, which guarantees your electronics are recycled properly. That doesn't just apply to the physical materials, but the data they contain. All items go through a rigorous process to guarantee safe, secure eradication of data, and this process is regularly audited by third parties to ensure we meet and exceed the highest industry standards.

So, while you may of course wipe your devices first, it's not necessary. In fact, most do-it-yourself wiping methods are not as risk-free as the protocols we have in place.

Why recycle electronics at all?

E-waste is the largest and fastest growing waste stream around the globe. Last year, more than 190,000 pounds of obsolete computers, printers, monitors, televisions and other e-waste was collected over three days. And throughout the lifetime of this event, Reds Nation has recycled and helped divert more than one million pounds of potentially hazardous materials from local landfills.

Not only does that prevent hazardous materials inside these devices from leaching into the surrounding environment, it reduces the need to mine new materials out of the ground, which is even more environmentally damaging than landfills. These resources are finite, while the bulk of the materials we're processing can be recycled practically infinitely without losing their properties.

So let's count that: You're keeping data out of the wrong hands, reducing the volume of materials sent to landfills, preventing harmful materials from entering the environment, and putting materials back into the manufacturing stream. Sounds like a home run to us!

Who can I thank for making this event happen?

We’d never be able to run this event every year without our generous sponsors and volunteers. We’d like to thank those that are helping us with our event this year:

Cohen is a Proud Sponsor of the Cincinnati Reds

We believe that the community where we live and work—and play—is vital to our health and well-being. And because the Cincinnati Reds do so much to help properly dispose of electronic waste (which is growing significantly every year), we are especially proud to be an official sponsor of the team.

Come on out, Reds Country. Recycle your e-waste, do some good for the environment, meet some Reds personalities and win some tickets to a game! We’ll see you there.
